Enhancing Livelihoods and Protection for Refugees in Lesotho

Implementing Partners: Skillshare Lesotho, in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Project Focus: This collaborative initiative is dedicated to alleviating the plight of refugees and asylum-seekers in Lesotho by enhancing their self-reliance, protection, and overall well-being.

Core Objectives & Outcomes:

The project aligns with key strategic outcomes to create a sustainable and dignified framework for support:

  1. Outcome Area 13: Livelihoods & Self-Reliance
    • Goal: By 2027, all forcibly displaced and stateless persons will benefit from expanded national and development opportunities.
    • Action: We are creating pathways to economic self-sufficiency through skills training, livelihood programs, and facilitating access to local labor markets and entrepreneurial ventures.
  2. Outcome Area 7: Community Protection & Social Cohesion
    • Goal: Enhance protection services for forcibly displaced persons (FDPs).
    • Action: We are fostering a protective environment through continuous community engagement, dialogue, and robust initiatives that promote peaceful coexistence and social cohesion between refugee and host communities.
  3. Outcome Area 8: Basic Needs & Well-being
    • Goal: Ensure access to essential services that meet basic human needs.
    • Action: We are securing critical support for FDPs in settlements, camps, and urban settings through modalities like Cash-Based Interventions (CBI), strengthening national service structures, and other targeted interventions to guarantee access to food, shelter, and core amenities.
